A remarkable aircraft much loved by its crews. Welcome Sight by Stephen Brown The Handley Page Halifax, together with the Avro Lancaster, formed the backbone of the RAFs night offensive against Germany from 1942 to 1945 and finished the campaign with an impressive record of achievement.  "Welcome Sight" depicts Halifax Mk IIIs of 158 Squadron passing over the village of West Tanfield on the River Ure, heading for the bomber base of Lisset, Yorkshire.
